The New York Times is reporting this morning that Democrats have their bill and have the support to get it passed.
How did they do it?? Well they curtailed the abortion issue to appease conservatives. So while the bill doesn't prohibit insurance companies from covering abortions, it offers states big incentives if they choose to shy away from abortion coverage.
I am pro-choice, and this pisses me off. This is a major win for the religious right, and it impedes our individual rights and personal choices. Now sure - some people make bad decisions when it comes to abortion. For example, when I was married - my ex-husband got his girlfriend at the time pregnant. She had too many kids already and was able to get an abortion without any problem. She might not be able to make that choice next time, luckily she's close to menopause.
But regardless, this is a major blow.
